I use Alka Seltzer when I feel UTI discomfort..?

Does it clear up the bacteria or it just stops the symptoms?
Answer:
actually if you have caught it early enough, it clears up the bacteria, it makes your urine very alkaline and the bacteria cannot grow and are just flushed out. But you have to catch it early. If your symptoms return, you need antibiotics.
Think about it... Is alka seltzer an antibiotic?
It does not clear up the bacteria. Bacteria needs antibiotics.
Alka Seltzer does nothing for an UTI. If you really have a UTI, you will need an antibiotic - which requires a visit to your doctor and a prescription. However, you can get pyridium over-the-counter to help with the discomfort of an UTI - mainly that of the urgency to have to urinate. Pyridium will turn your urine orange - it will also turn your tears orange - so if you wear contact lenses, just be aware that your contacts will then be tinted orange from this medication.
I've never used Alka-Seltzer for UTI problems...but cranberry juice is supposed to work wonders. If you don't like the taste of cranberries, it comes in pill form, too. AZO is the brand. Hope you feel better soon.
